The Three Peaks Challenge:

Christmas Shopping List...

Dear Santa, as I will be attempting the 3 Peaks Challenge in 2010 for charity, please help me enjoy a safe and comfortable challenge by putting the following items in my stocking... :-) The items are in no particular order, but I've included a price guide and 1 to 5 star rating of importance...

1. TREKKING POLES (**): A luxury item which will benefit those with any ankle or knee problems. Can be a pain having to get out, then stow away, and can add some difficulty when traversing styles or kissing gates, but overall - they are a great addition for many walkers. Should be used well before your challenge, as they will use muscles you may not be aware you owned..! Anywhere from £20 per pair to £100 a pair.

2. WALKING SOCKS (****): Quality walking socks will make your challenge a whole lot more comfortable, and hopefully ward off any blisters... You need a fresh pair for each mountain, and any good walking shop will advise on the best available. £10 to £15 a pair.

3. ORDNANCE SURVEY MAPS (*****): OK, not the most stimulating Christmas present, but every team should have an OS map at 1:25,000 scale of each mountain. And, yes, you should know how to read it...! Get the most up-to-date version, and if you can afford it - get the laminated maps. From around £6 to £15 per map.

4. CAR SATNAV (*****): I'm sure most people can at least beg or borrow a Satnav? If you don't have one, it's a great investment if you go out and about in your car. You can even try Geocaching with it..! Remember to use our Driving Directions to input the best route into your new satnav. From around £100 upwards. Or from around £15k if it comes with a car :-)

5. BIVVY BAG (*****): Hey guys, for around a fiver, this could save your life. Just a big plastic bag that you can crawl into to be protected from all of those nasty elements the weather can chuck at you. A must have for EVERY Three Peaks Challenge walker - infact, every walker... From £5 at any walking shop.

More to follow....
